I was recently in an accident on my 2-year-old Vespa scooter that has comprehensive insurance coverage. The front end has some damage and needs body work repairs. Can I make an insurance claim to cover the costs of the repairs even though my scooter is not brand new? How much depreciation can I expect if I decide to make a claim?

Yes, you can definitely file a claim with your comprehensive insurance to cover the cost of repairs. Comprehensive policies cover your own accident damages regardless of the scooter’s age. You’ll likely see around 10-20% depreciation deducted given the scooter is 2 years old. But the remaining repair costs will be covered minus the depreciation amount.

Since you have comprehensive coverage, repairs like body work should be covered following an accident, even on an older vehicle. Be sure to check what documents your insurance company requires for the claims process. Provide all details like photos of the damage to determine the repair scope. The insurance will likely deduct around 15% depreciation since it’s a 2 year old scooter, but will cover parts and labor costs beyond that depreciation amount.
