Nokia, one of the pioneers of GSM communication and telecom industry and Xiaomi, popularly known as the ‘Apple of China’, have announced an agreement to cross-license patents from each other.which will help both companies develop new products.

This deal will help both the companies in developing new products and help each other in terms of growth and innovation. As a part of the deal, Nokia will provide network infrastructure equipment to deliver high capacity, low power requirements that are needed by companies that are processing and delivering lots of data. Both the companies will also work together on technologies focused on the data center.

As per a statement from Nokia, both Nokia and Xiaomi have agreed to explore new opportunities for further cooperation and will focus on some specific sectors like the Internet of things, augmented and virtual reality, and artificial intelligence, according to a press release.

Rajeev Suri, President & CEO of Nokia said, “Xiaomi is one of the world’s leading smartphone manufacturers and we are delighted to have reached an agreement with them. In addition to welcoming such a prominent global technology company to our family of patent licensees, we look forward to working together on a wide range of strategic projects.”

Xiaomi is relatively a new company which has established itself in some countries very well and has its presence in over 30 countries spread across various parts of the world. Xiaomi is well known for its smartphones packed with innovative technologies, but they provide innovative products at great prices that very few people can think of beating. Apart from smartphones, Xiaomi is also a leading Internet of Things player. The Mi Ecosystem IoT platform has crossed 60 million connected devices, and there are now over 8 million daily active connected devices on the Mi Ecosystem platform.

This agreement between a smartphone giant of China which is now well known in Asia and beyond and Nokia, a pioneer in the telecom industry is being seen as a new start of innovation and infrastructure improvements which will boost the telecom industry and empower users up to a greater extent in future.
