Mobiistar X1 Notch Review
Mobiistar X1 Notch Review

Since last year when the Vietnamese smartphone maker Mobiistar launched their products, their focus in selling low-budget smartphones has been going really well because of the specs and product quality they offer to the consumers at reasonable prices. The Mobiistar XQ Dual did quite well in the offline market and now the brand recently launched the all-new Mobiistar X1 Notch in India. The phone is priced at Rs. 9,499 and is clearly targeted to the trendy people out there who want to jump onto the notch bandwagon. I have been using this phone for a while and here are the initial impressions about the device.

Mobiistar X1 Notch Smartphone First Impressions

Design

The phone comes with quite good specs for the price tag. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio A22 quad-core processor, coupled with 3GB of RAM. The phone comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ display along with a notch on top and the phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo.

Mobiistar X1 Notch Front

The first thing about this phone that gets everyone’s attention is the look it carriers as the phone comes with a gradient colour scheme on the back.

The phone feels quite good to hold in hand. The 3.5mm audio jack is located on the top, while the micro-USB port with speaker grille is at the bottom. On the left edge, there is the SIM Tray which supports dual SIM cards along with a microSD card.

On the right edge, there are the volume rockers and the power button. On the back, there is the rear camera with LED flash and the fingerprint scanner is at the middle.

Display

On the front, there is a 5.7-inch HD+ display which looks great. With a resolution of HD+ for a low-budget smartphone, one cannot ask for more. Also, this is one of the cheapest phones out there with a notch on top of the display.

Mobiistar X1 Notch Display

It has been a year since the notch hype had started and Mobiistar took the trend to the next level with implementing the notch on a budget smartphone and literally naming a phone as Mobiistar X1 Notch. The visuals so far on the display is plenty bright with sharp colours and vibrant colours.

Performance

Powered with MediaTek Helio A22 chipset with 3GB + 32GB ROM, the phone offered approximately 23GB of free space. In our usage period, the phone didn’t lag at all & the phone UI was fluid as well. Also for a budget phone, the gaming performance surprised me a lot as I was able to play some arcade games, as well as PUBG, which is a heavy game. Though PUBG could run at low settings, it’s playable for sure.

Software

Out of the box, the phone offers Star launcher based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Mobiistar has done great work on this launcher as it offers a good number of options for customizing the overall UI of the phone. The OS is also loaded with gestures support, face unlock, Duraspeed & more. There’s a good number of third-party apps comes pre-installed and all of them can be uninstalled, so that’s not an issue.

Camera

Mobiistar is promoting the X1 Notch as a camera-centric phone and claims about optimizations based on the AI. Although it is unfair to demand much from a budget phone, Mobiistar X1 Notch didn’t disappoint at all and is a decent performer.

Mobiistar X1 Notch Rear Camera

There is a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.2 on the back with LED flash while on the front as well there is a 12-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0. The rear camera takes decent shots outdoors with ample natural lighting though it gets worse in low lighting conditions. The selfie camera is indeed great on the device and captures some great shots. There is an AI backed portrait mode, beautification mode that smoothens the skin and is available for both, rear and front camera.

Battery

The Mobiistar X1 Notch packs a 3,020mAh battery and the battery life seems to be quite good. Even with moderate usage, like watching videos for 2-3 hours, gaming & phone calls for around an hour each, internet surfing & more, the phone still easily lasted a day and the phone is not over-aggressive for killing the apps in background, hence it didn’t ruin the user experience as well for saving the battery.

Final Verdict

The Mobiistar X1 Notch is good for those who want a striking design, minimal looking skin, and a good selfie camera. For a price of Rs 9499, the phone directly competes with Realme 2, Xiaomi Redmi 6, Asus Zenfone Max pro M1 & Honor 9N, however, none of these devices offers the attractive gradient back or looks as good as the X1 Notch.
