In terms of chipset, the Mi has done the same as they have been doing and have packed a Snapdragon 835 which is clocked at 2.4 GHz, whereas Honor 8 Pro packs a HiSilicon Kirin 960 clocked at the same speed. However, the chipset differs and also the GPU, in terms of daily usage both the phones are fluid, responsive and handles multitasking well. In terms of gaming also, both are comparable, but as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 is built on 10nm process, the Mi MIX 2 is quite efficient. Otherwise, there are not much noticeable performance gaps between the two devices.

Both the Honor 8 Pro and the Mi MIX 2 packs a huge amount of RAM and that is 6GB, so in terms of multitasking, there are no lags or glitches. However, the OS matters and we will talk a bit about it. Both the Mi MIX2 and Honor 8 Pro comes with a custom skin applied on top of Android, but both are pretty fluid and smooth. Both OS offers their set of custom features developed by the brands but in terms of usability, you’ll find Emotion UI having more features compared to MIUI.

The Mi MIX 2 comes with a single 12MP rear camera, and the photos taken with the Mi MIX 2 are quite good. The Mi MIX 2 has an aperture of F/2.0 and well, it performs quite good. The colors are vibrant and photos are not over saturate at all. However, in low lighting conditions, the Mi MIX 2 struggles a lot, whereas the Honor 8 Pro performs better as it captures light with both it’s RGB and monochrome sensor. In daylight and dark, the Honor 8 Pro captures amazing shots. Honor 8 Pro can also capture images with bokeh effect due to the presence of two camera sensors on the back.

Now let’s talk about the display, which is the strongest point of Honor 8 Pro. The Mi MIX 2 packs a 5.99-inch display (1080 x 2160 pixels) while the Honor 8 Pro comes with a 5.7-inch (1440 x 2560 pixels) display and well the pixel density is higher on the display of Honor 8 has compared to that on the Mi MIX 2. The front of Mix Mi 2 looks beautiful, as there are absolutely almost no bezels. There is a small chin on the Mi MIX 2 which is fine because somewhere they had to put the front-facing camera and other sensors. That also leads to a weird situation – Whenever you need to take a selfie, you will have to hold the phone upside down, which may take some time to get habituated to. However, this gets super weird during video calling. So, if you are just NOT a fan of absolute futuristic design and all these, you may surely pick the Honor 8 Pro.

In terms of battery, both last a day easily. Now, the Honor 8 Pro comes with a bigger battery and well, both the phones have got Quick Charging which is a good thing. But, in terms of just battery backup, the Honor 8 Pro seems to be a bit ahead of the Mi MIX 2.

So, which one should you pick?

  1. If you are a fan of the futuristic look, bezel-less display – Mi MIX 2.
  2. If you want portrait mode and want to get good low light performance – Honor 8 Pro.
  3. If you always panic, while the battery is low – Honor 8 Pro.
  4. If you want to save Rs. 8,999 – Honor 8 Pro!
  5. Do you often enjoy VR content? Get into an immersive VR experience with the Honor 8 Pro. This is not for everyone but still, Honor 8 Pro is a great pick for VR content and a great experience.

So, Honor 8 Pro and Mi MIX 2 both are priced under Rs. 40,000 and especially Honor 8 Pro, which was priced initially at just Rs. 30,000 and now they have slashed it a bit more to Rs. 26,999, is a steal deal for those who want a great phone with a good camera, battery backup. Whereas, if you are ready to spend for the premium feel, futuristic looks, beautiful design, the Mi MIX 2 is for you.
