Huawei’s sub-brand Honor is back with yet another affordable, but promising smartphone the Honor 7X. The Honor 7X is a successor to the Honor 6X, which was quite a popular smartphone from Honor in India. To continue the flow, Honor 7X has been priced quite aggressively, starting at Rs. 12,999 for the 4 GB+32 GB variant, while the higher variant which offers 64 GB storage is priced at Rs. 15,999. The phone will go on sale via Amazon India from December 7th and it is expected to compete with Xiaomi Mi A1 and Moto G5s Plus, given that all of these have the camera as the USP, but Honor 7X also features a bezel-less display.
Commenting on the launch of Honor 7X, George Zhao, President, Honor said, “The Honor 7X is the leading choice for users who want to enjoy rich functionality with the benefits of a bezel-less phone, while on a limited budget. Additionally, Honor is immensely proud of the quality control it undertakes in producing every phone – Honor 7Xwas dropped over 4,800 times in the lab in testing – so users can be assured that better value for money doesn’t compromise our high-end quality.”
While talking about Honor’s partnership with Amazon India, Noor Patel, Director, Amazon India commented, “We are thrilled to partner up with Huawei for the Honor 7X. Given its excellent price, specifications and honor’s technology, we’re sure it will be an Amazon bestseller.”
The Honor 7X features a full metallic body and feels premium, the corners are rounded well and on the front, there are no physical buttons. The fingerprint scanner sits at the back, placed symmetrically below the dual camera module and flash, put at the top left corner. The Honor 7X features a big 5.9-inch full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9.
In terms of processor, the phone is powered by Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset, coupled with 4GB of RAM, and either 32 GB or 64 GB internal storage. However, the storage can be expanded up to 256 GB via microSD card. Just like the Honor 6X, the Honor 7X houses a dual camera setup on the back, which comprises of a 16 MP sensor and a 2 MP depth sensor. There is an 8MP sensor for selfies.
However, Huawei seems to be doing some software tricks like the Google Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL to add bokeh to selfies as well, despite the use a single sensor on the front. As expected, the camera is full of features and modes like filters, time-lapse, light painting, slow-motion video, and panorama. A dedicated full manual mode has also been provided that lets users adjust ISO, exposure, shutter speed etc. Huawei has claimed that the phone has focusing speed as fast as 0.18 seconds.
The Honor 7X runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with Huawei’s custom EMUI 5.1 on top. The new EMUI 5.1 is packed with features like parallel apps, knuckle based gestures, scrolling screenshot, One-key Screen Split function and more.
In terms of connectivity, the Honor 7X supports 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS/A-GPS and GLONASS. However, Huawei still retains micro-USB port instead of the newer USB-C port. There is a hybrid SIM slot so that users can either use two SIM cards or use one SIM card and one microSD card. The device packs a 33470mAh battery.
The Honor 7X starts at Rs. 12,999 which seems to be a very fair deal for most people who are going to grab a new smartphone but spending Rs. 3K just for the 64 GB storage seems to be a little disappointment but necessity as the Honor 7X doesn’t come with a dedicated microSD slot, the sale starts from tomorrow on Amazon India. Also, Airtel customers will get 90 GB free data for 6 months and Mobikwik users will get Rs. 1250 Supercash when they purchase a new Honor 7X.
