Today, Huawei’s subsidiary brand Honor will be rolling out an update for their latest flagship, the Honor View 10. This new software update will enable Face Unlock feature through intelligent face recognition in Honor View 10. Huawei just informed us via a press release that the update has already started rolling out and everyone will be getting the update by 24th January 2018.

Many of the Honor View 10 users will be excited about this feature. To enable face recognition, a user needs to enroll his face by accessing the Face recognition feature, found in phone’s settings menu.

The Face Unlock doesn’t just help you unlock the phone by lifting it to your face, but it also provides better control over privacy. When a new message comes in and the user picks up the phone, Honor View 10 recognizes the face and shows the messages to the user, without unlocking the phone or opening any apps. Another new feature is the intelligent screen, which knows when the user is reading because it can detect the eyes and when the user is not reading, the display will be turned off.

That’s not all, the camera app also gets some improvements and features. Now users can click a photo and change the background. However, it is available only for the front camera. Super-resolution photos can be obtained, as Honor View 10 uses AI super-resolution algorithm that brings detail enhancement and the processor enhances the resolution.

The recently launched Honor View 10 is the most affordable device in the market with AI capabilities, priced at Rs. 29,999. The phone runs Android 8.0 Oreo, has an 18:9 display, and a Kirin 970, which is a flagship SoC from Huawei itself, with its own NPU (Neural Processing Unit) for AI-based tasks. Some of the AI based features include Face Unlock, Payment Authentication and can unlock the phone in 400ms. For 3D face reconstruction, it uses sub-millimeter reconstruction accuracy and can deliver a 300k-point cloud reconstruction in 10 seconds. Other AI based features include an AI-accelerated translator, intelligent scene and object recognition, motion detection, a portrait mode for selfies.
