Honor 9 Lite gets Ride Mode via OTA update

Honor, the subsidiary brand of Huawei has rolled out a new update today to the Honor 9 Lite, which was launched December last year. The new feature urges consumers to follow responsible and safe smartphone usage while riding. Huawei has taken this step based on industry reports and figures, that indicate that India has one of the highest numbers of road accidents due to several factors like distracted driving and mobile phone usage while driving or riding.

The Ride Mode is now available on Honor 9 Lite and the company stated that the Ride Mode will soon be also rolled out to other Honor smartphones like Honor 7X, and Honor 9i in future. The update will roll out in batches and all the Honor 9 Lite will get the update by March end. To enable Ride-Mode user needs to activate the feature either from drop-down notifications menu or by going to the phone settings. Once the Ride Mode is enabled, when a user is riding, if someone tries to contact the rider, he will be notified that the user is currently riding and cannot answer calls. However, in a case of emergency, the caller can call the rider by pressing numeric ‘1’.

Commenting on the launch of this new Ride Mode on Honor 9 Lite, P Sanjeev, Vice President, Sales, Huawei Consumer Business Group said,“Honor has been leading the market through consumer-centric innovation, and the new Ride Mode feature continues our innovation and further reiterates our commitment towards the betterment of smartphone experience. Ride Mode feature will be useful for millions of Indian bike rider and encourage safe smartphone usage while bike riding.” 

Earlier in 2015, Huawei was the first smartphone brand in India, to introduce SOS feature, post-government’ directive of including a panic button or SOS feature. The Honor 9 Lite sports a 5.65-inch 18:9 IPS display. The phone sports dual camera modules on both rear and front and the phone runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with EMUI 8.0 on top. In terms of pricing, the 32GB variant of Honor 9 Lite costs Rs. 10,999 while the 64GB variant is priced at Rs. 14,999.
