A New LG V30 2018 Variant With AI Capabilities To Be Unveiled At MWC 2018 Barcelona

LG Electronics, a market leader in smartphones and electronics will unveil the first LG smartphone that comes with AI, at the MWC 2018 Barcelona. It was till now not very clear what LG is trying to do as LG had earlier claimed that they will bring phones, but not the LG G7 at the MEC 2018. Many reports claimed that we might see a Rose Gold LG V30, but now, looks like either we will see the same old phones with some upgrades and AI technologies, or LG may launch a completely new lineup at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

But now, LG has clarified everything and the brand has let us know the fact that it is the LG V30 2018, which is a refresh to LG’s most advanced flagship smartphone till date. But, this is not where the AI dream started as LG has been working on this for a year and it started sometime long before announcing LG ThinQ at CES 2018. The research helped LG create AI-based solutions with the objective to deliver a unique and more intuitive user experience, focusing on the camera and voice recognition.

How does the AI on LG smartphones matter to you?

LG is basically trying to make a leapfrog AI solution that is way ahead of what other AI solutions on smartphones are capable of and gives the user an immense amount of hassle-free operating experience, automated decisions, and the best suggestions. Such an example is the camera, combined with AI.

LG V30 has cameras that include dual lenses, wide-angle low-distortion lenses, and the all-glass Crystal Clear Lens but LG is adding Vision AI to it so that the camera on the LG V30 2018 gets even smarter and easier to use. Vision AI automatically analyzes objects and recommends the best shooting mode from among eight modes: portrait, food, pet, landscape, city, flower, sunrise, and sunset. The angle of view, color, reflections, backlighting, and saturation levels are all taken into consideration as the phone analyzes images in its database to determine what the camera is focusing on in order to recommend the best setting. Many of you might have the habit of taking pictures of your breakfast and sharing it on social media, in that case well, you don’t need to play with the filters to make the egg yolk look good as the Vision AI will take the photo and understand that it’s a food picture, so the output with warmer colors and heightened sharpening will be produces for the most appealing visual.

To develop the Vision AI, LG has a partner in image recognition to analyze over 100 million images in order to develop the phone’s image recognition algorithms. Over one thousand unique image categories were created for more accurate image analysis, resulting in better shooting mode recommendations. Vision AI is also capable of understanding the type of picture as well as information as by just simply pointing the camera at an object, LG’s Vision AI can automatically scan QR codes, initiate an image search or provide shopping options.

The shopping feature is also designed to provide information about from where to purchase the item and where the item is available at the lowest price. To help the users in taking photos in low lighting situations, LG’s Vision AI will enforce low-light shooting mode that will automatically brighten the images in dim environments by a factor of two. Till now, the smartphone cameras used to measure external light levels, but Vision AI will instead measure the brightness of the actual image output, which will let it know about the actual brightness levels in the pictures and hence that will be adjusted much more accurately.

Voice will let the LG V30 do more!

In recent months, we have seen a tremendous growth in voice guides assistants, smart home hubs and improvements in understanding voice commands, especially, if we look at the Google Assistant.

With Voice recognition, the new LG V30 2018 variant will be able to run apps and change settings through voice commands alone. LG has also worked hard to make G specific voice commands that user can use while letting the Google Assistant work flawlessly, so LG is not going the Bixby way, which actually failed. The LG V30 will be able to understand 32 LG-exclusive Voice AI commands. Time to dump your LG V30 and get the new LG V30 2018 with AI capabilities?

Probably not, because LG has just let us know that fact that LG will hold the strategy for smartphones that have existing AI features, but they will push new updates to bring more features and make the user experience better. Some of the new AI features will not be limited to the LG V30 2018 variant and other new models only, but also to existing LG smartphones via over-the-air updates.

Talking about this, Ha Jeung-uk, senior vice president and business unit leader for LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said, “As we communicated last month at CES, the future for LG lies in AI, not just hardware specs and processing speeds. Creating smarter smartphones will be our focus going forward and we are confident that consumers will appreciate the advanced user experience with the enhanced V30 that many have been asking and waiting for.”

LG will have its booth in Hall 3 Fira Gran Via from February 26 until March 1 during the Mobile World Congress 2018 at Barcelona, Spain. And during the MWC itself, LG will launch the LG V30 2018 variant and talk about the improvements and features that we will see on the phone. However, LG has not talked about anything else till now so it’s not sure whether LG will bing a replacement of the LG G7 or not!
