The OnePlus 5T is finally official. OnePlus has finally unveiled the product today, though the hype was building up since last one month or so and we came across some leaks as well hinting towards the specs OnePlus 5T will have. The OnePlus 5T is the successor to the OnePlus 5, with some upgrades like the new 6-inch bezel-less Samsung AMOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, improved rear camera, and a few other miscellaneous changes and upgrades here and there.
OnePlus 5T First Impressions – Hello to the Bezel-less Design
OnePlus Founder and CEO Pete Lau said, “The feedback on the OnePlus 5 has been very positive, but there were some areas where we saw room for improvement to create an even better user experience. We love nothing more than offering our community the latest and greatest technology and a user experience to beat expectations. Once again, we’ve worked hard to refine every last detail.”
One of the new features of the OnePlus 5T is the Face Unlock, which OnePlus claimed to be based on advanced facial recognition algorithms that use over 100 facial features and identity points to securely unlock the phone within 0.4 seconds. OnePlus has also mentioned that this features will work on apps that need an extra layer of security such as banking and payments apps.
The fingerprint scanner has been put on the back as there is no space on the front due to the lack of bezels, and with that, users will now be able to long-press the fingerprint scanner to take a selfie and use the gesture swipe pull down the notification shade. OxygenOS features, that we have seen on the OnePlus 5 are also present i.e. Reading Mode, Parallel Apps, and Gallery Maps.
In terms of specs, the OnePlus 5T features a 2.5D 6.01-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 401ppi pixel density with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. There are minimum bezels at the top and bottom of the display, and as we said, that’s why they placed the fingerprint scanner on the back. The display on OnePlus 5T supports sRGB and DCI-P3 colour gamuts. In terms of processor and RAM, there are no upgrades as just like OnePlus 5, it is also powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC clocked at 2.45GHz, coupled with either 6GB or 8GB LPDDR4X RAM.
In terms of camera, OnePlus has upgraded the OnePlus 5T a bit and. There is a primary 16 MP Sony IMX398 sensor with 1.12-micron pixels and an aperture of f/1.7. But, the secondary 20 MP Sony IMX350 sensor has been replaced with a 20 MP Sony IMX376K sensor with the pixel size of 1 micron and an aperture of f/1.7 . There is a dual tone LED flash and the OnePlus 5T can record 4K video at 30fps, 1080p video at 60fps and lower resolutions.
OnePlus has focused in low light photography and hence they upgraded the secondary rear camera sensor with a larger aperture and it also comes with Intelligent Pixel Technology, which let the OnePlus 5T’s secondary camera merge four pixels into one, that helps in reducing noise in low-light environments and enhancing clarity. OnePlus has also made some improvements in the software for Portrait Mode to improve noise reduction. This is accomplished through new multi-frame algorithms that compare different frames of the same scene to filter out inconsistencies and improve the overall clarity of portraits.
The front camera on the OnePlus 5T is same as what we saw in OnePlus 5, featuring a 16-megapixel Sony IMX371 sensor with 1-micron pixels and an aperture of f/2.0 and 1080p recording capabilities at 30fps.
The OnePlus 5T comes in two storage variants- 64GB and 128GB. Connectivity options on the OnePlus 5T include 4G VoLTE, dual-band (2.4GHz, 5GHz) Wi-Fi 802.11ac with MIMO 2×2, Bluetooth v5.0 with aptX and aptX HD, NFC, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB Type-C (v2.0) port. The OnePlus 5T packs a 3300mAh non-removable battery and comes with company’s proprietary Dash Charge Technology, that lets you get one day’s usage with 30 minutes of Dash Charging.
What about the price? Is OnePlus 5T more expensive?
No. The OnePlus 5T is priced same as the OnePlus 5 and in India it starts at Rs. 32,999 for the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variant and the higher variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs. 37,999. The OnePlus will be available exclusively on Amazon India and will be available via the OnePlus Online Store in India as well. The OnePlus 5T will first go on sale exclusively for Amazon Prime members at 4:30 pm IST on November 21. And at the same time, customers can also participate in the early access sale of OnePlusStore.in and OnePlus Experience Store.OnePlus 5T open sales begin on November 28, 2017, in India along with EU and US market.
OnePlus fans who have attended the OnePlus 5T launch event in any of the 5 PVR theatres across India can pre-book the device for Rs. 1000 for guaranteed purchase starting 21st November, after completing the transaction. Those who want to experience OnePlus 5T before purchase, can visit either the OnePlus Experience zones in Brigade Road (Bangalore) or Mall of India (Noida). So, OnePlus is set to disrupt the flagship phone market once again and well, with some useful upgrades in hardware and software improvements and some crazy deals, it is expected to be a hit.
